Announcing Newly Elected Board of Directors

Wailuku, MAUI July 24, 2013 – Imua Family Services is pleased to announce the newly elected President of the Board of Directors, Karen Worthington as of July 1, 2013.

Karen Worthington is a children’s law attorney with a national consulting and writing business focused on child maltreatment and juvenile justice. Karen Worthington Consulting helps nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and foundations use research to improve outcomes for children and families through policy development, legislative advocacy, research and analysis, and strategic partnerships.

Worthington is an active member of the Maui child advocacy community. In addition to serving on the board of Imua Family Services, she serves on the Hanai Coalition, a consortium of agencies and individuals who support foster, adoptive, legal guardianship and Hanai families in Maui County; the Ho’oikaika Partners, a group of organizations committed to preventing child abuse and neglect; and the Kula School PTA. She is also a member of the Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund Coalition and is a lecturer with the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Social Sciences.

Karen is thrilled to be part of an organization that has a longstanding commitment to Maui County children and families. “Supporting children and their families during infancy and early childhood is one of the best ways to secure a strong future for the Maui community,” says Worthington. “Imua’s mission aligns with my personal and professional beliefs about children and families and it an honor to participate in the organization’s work.”

On serving on the Imua Board, Worthington says, “The level of commitment and quality demonstrated by the Imua team is amazing! As soon as I walk into the office or an Imua event, I feel the energy generated by the excitement about serving children who are facing developmental or behavioral challenges.”

Worthington lives in Kula with her husband Mark Crowe and their two daughters.
