Aliyah, a young child whose family recently experienced a tragic loss due to the suicide of her father, was the recipient of a special “dream day” aimed at restoring some sense of normalcy to her life while also honoring the deep sense of pride and connection she feels to her Native Hawaiian culture. Aliyah’s “Moana”-themed Dream Day was featured in The Maui News, allowing her story to reach many others. This news then inspired the members of the Lahaina Rotary Club to initiate their own significant fundraising efforts to directly support Aliyah’s family.
