Our Newborn Hearing Screening Program has reduced the average age of hearing loss identification from three years of age to six months. Early identification and intervention for all newborns with hearing loss is critical as it accelerates treatment and prevents unnecessary developmental delays. Imua staff provides outpatient testing for infants regardless if they are born on Maui, at home or in a hospital. We also provide retesting and audio logic follow-up evaluations and referrals when needed.
When it comes to newborn screening, remember your ABC’s:
Ask your doctor or healthcare provider which conditions are screened in your state. You can also check the state page on the Baby’s First Test website.
Be proactive!
Call your doctor or health care provider to follow up on your baby’s test results.
