Roy’s Restaurants’ 16th Annual Golf Classic raises over $42,000 for Imua Family Services
Ka’anapali, Hawaii – The highly coveted 16th Annual Roy’s Restaurants Golf Classic, held at the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course, raised over $42,000 for Imua Family Services. “The combined efforts of the committee and participants made the 16th annual golf tournament the most exciting tournament ever,” said Dean Wong, Imua’s Executive Director. “This year we were excited to honor First Hawaiian Bank who has been partnering with Roy’s Restaurants Owner/Chef Roy Yamaguchi and the Roy’s Restaurants Golf Classic as a major co-sponsor since the tournaments inception. This tournament goes a long way to help children and their families in our Maui community.”
Other major sponsors included HMAA and Southern Wine & Spirits; Hole-in-One sponsors: Baron & Leeds, HMAA, Sakamoto Properties, Thornton & Associates, and VIP Foodservice with special support from The Pebble Beach Company, Ka’anapali Golf Courses, Maui Jim, Inc., United Airlines, Kapalua Golf Courses, Hualalai Golf Club, Nanea Golf Club, Waikoloa Beach & Kings’ Course, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Audio Visual Services, Kevin Rebelo, and Advantage Webco Hawaii.
Thirty-nine teams vied for top honors with prizes ranging from golf clubs and rounds of golf at courses throughout the state, to gift certificates for island restaurants, hotel stays, luau’s, sailing charters, and passes to the some of the island’s most enjoyable activities.
The day culminated with a “hole-in-one dinner” at Roy’s Kaanapali and awards presentation emceed by Guy Hagi, of Hawaii News Now. For the first time in twelve years Imua Family Services had a team in the tournament which took first place; the team of Arnie Baptiste of HMAA placed second, and the team of Gary Hogan of Royal Lahaina Resort placed third.
Dean Wong, Executive Director of Imua Family Services said, “It is vitally important to recognize Roy Yamaguchi and his staff for the amazing commitment, effort and energy that it takes to make this event a reality. Thank you also to First Hawaiian Bank for another year as co-sponsor of the tournament. Also recognized by Wong was the coordinating committee, Mike Moynahan, Rainer Kumbroch, Mike Webber, Jim St. John, Bill McKeon, and Lisa Donlon, as well as the “dozens of businesses that supported this event with donations and prizes.” Wong added that throughout its sixteen-year history, the tournament has raised over a half million dollars to support Imua Family Services programs. This support has been instrumental in sustaining programs and services to families.
Imua Family Services provides comprehensive early childhood development services to children and their families with the support and resources needed to achieve their full potential in life. Each year, over 3,000 community members on Maui and Lanai receive support from Imua Family Services through the Infant & Child Development Program, Early Childhood Development Program, Newborn Hearing Screening, and Camp Imua.
